History

Atkinson opened in Fall 1969 and celebrating its 50th birthday with modern renovations and additions. Our school consists of 48 certified, 22 support personnel, a principal and an assistant principal whose dedication and commitment to our students helps them meet our high expectations. Atkinson serves approximately 622 students in grades kindergarten through fourth from many culturally diverse populations.

The efforts and energy of all faculty and staff is focused towards fulfilling our mission "to provide a positive educational experience for all children." We are committed to guiding children in a positive and supportive manner so that our students achieve academic success and develop responsible social skills. All school decisions are designed to promote a strong educational program while ensuring a quality environment for all of our students.

One of the strengths of Atkinson is the close communication and interaction of our parents and community. Our strong PTO involvement contributes directly to the success of our students who have gained national and state recognition for their achievements. As our TAKS scores indicate, we are consistently improving as our children dedicate themselves to being the best they can be. All our children, parents and educational staff can be proud of Atkinson Elementary.
